Hart Hill Usain Bolt Homecoming Celebration

On September 20, 2008 National Meats in association with the community of Sherwood Content will present the Hart Hill Usain Bolt Homecoming Celebration. The event, a show of gratitude and admiration for triple Olympic gold medalist and local son, Usain Bolt, will be held in his hometown and will serve as Trelawny's ode to Bolt's amazing performance in the recently concluded Beijing Games in China.

The Hart Hill Usain Bolt Homecoming Celebration will commence with a fun day for the youth of the community at the Waldensia Primary School where Usain's talent was discovered and nurtured. The tempo of the celebration will step up a notch with a concert boasting some of Jamaica's top Gospel, Reggae & Dancehall acts on stage celebrating Usain's great achievement.

The concert will be at no cost to patrons as full sponsorship of the event is being undertaken by National Meats/Hart Hill. David Phillips CEO of National Meats/Hart Hill voiced his pride in company's involvement in the event, "We take rural development seriously and this is the reason we have joined with the community of Sherwood Content in this effort. Usain is an inspiration to all Jamaicans young and old and we felt that his achievements should be celebrated and heralded as a standard that we must all seek to attain."

Phillips continued "The nation is caught up in the pride and confidence that Bolt has instilled in us since his emergence as our ambassador on the world stage. While he belongs to all Jamaicans he is first and foremost a son of the community of Sherwood Content. During the Olympics National Meats provided a big screen TV to the community so that we could all watch Usain make us 1proud and together shared in the joy of his victories; we also sponsored a motorcade and a celebration party after Usain won the 200m."

The event will be organized by Mario Lazarre Jr CEO of No Joke Entertainment who is known for his professionalism and attention to detail. To be a part of an Olympic Celebration honouring one of the greatest athletes we may ever see is beyond words" Stated an obviously overwhelmed Mario Lazarre Jr.

Usain Bolt, the 22-year-old sprint star holds the 100m record when he stopped the clock at 9.69 seconds, the 200m at 19.30 seconds, as well as the 4 x 100m at 37.10 seconds, which he set along with his team mates at the just-concluded 2008 Summer Olympics. Bolt, who created history at the Beijing Olympics, holds the title of being the first man to win all male sprint events at the same Olympics since Carl Lewis accomplished the feat in 1984, and Usain is the only man to have set records in all three events at the same Olympiad.

The feat created a rippling effect throughout the world, especially in Jamaica where it sparked the pride of a nation as people from all walks of life came together to celebrate. Thus is the nature and greatness of the William Knibb graduate and cherished son of Sherwood Content.

The community which nurtured him and has been behind him on all his record runs will celebrate his greatness in a grand affair on September 20, 2008.

My Honda wasn't firebombed - Vybz Kartel

Vybz Kartel a.k.a Addi the Teacha is denying claims that his Honda Accord motor car was firebombed by thugs who allegedly came to his posh residential home in the wee hours of the morning.

"Ridiculous!" a calm-sounding Vybz Kartel told a One876Entertainment.com reporter this morning. "The Honda had an electrical problem and the fireman came and extinguished the blaze, that's all, my car was not firebombed."

Vybz Kartel has been involved in a lyrical clash with David 'Mavado' Brooks, a member of the Alliance in recent weeks, the two exchanging hardcore disses on the Martial Arts rhythm resurrected by Cordel 'Skatta' Burrell. Mavado's song, Dem a Fag, intimated that Kartel was a homosexual, while Kartel responded with equal vitriol in Wah Dat Fah? suggesting that he had sexual intercourse with Mavado's mother and reiterated rumours that Mavado's brother was an effeminate homosexual.

"At the end of the day, Jamaicans should know it's just music, no physical altercation. Mi no have nothing against David. If he does against me, I don't see it. My focus now is on positive songs like Money Fi Spend, Million by a Morning, and Life Sweet, uplifting songs for Jamaica, so don't expect me to perform those clash songs onstage, just regular thug anthems and daggering songs. Money over war," he said.

DJ Vybz Kartel’s Honda Accord bombed?

Gangster lyricist Adejah Palmer more popularly known as Vybz Kartel was given a rude awakening when his Honda Accord motor car was allegedly bombed outside of his plush upper St Andrew home in the late hours of Sunday 24th August. According to reports from the area, a motorcycle was heard entering the road on which the Dj lives and moments later an explosion shattered the silence complimented by the sound of the motorcycle speeding off.

When the OutARoad.com team arrived on the scene, the charred remains of the car were seen outside the deejay’s gate cooling down.

The Dj was not available for comment, but OutARoad.com team hopes that he stays safe and that there will be no repeat of this incident.

It is unclear as to what were the motives behind the bombing but OutAroad.com will keep you posted as the saga unfolds.

Spragga Benz's son shot dead by Kingston cops

As the euphoria surrounding the emphatic performance of the athletes at the Olympiad dissipates, the country’s murder rate continues to steamroll ahead at a record pace. The latest victim is the 17 year-old Carlton Grant, son of entertainer Spragga Benz, who was shot and killed by police last night.

Reports from CCN are that about 11:50 p.m., members of a police party were on patrol along Church Street when two men were seen on a bicycle. They were signalled to stop and they complied. On approach of the lawmen one of the men pulled a gun and fired at the Police. The fire was returned and the men ran. The area was searched and Grant was found suffering from gunshot wounds. A .45 semi-Automatic pistol serial number N338142 was taken from him. The injured Grant was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Spragga Benz could not be reached for comment as the one876 staff was told that he was overseas. We were told that he is extremely close to his eldest son. We wish Benz's family our most heartfelt condolences at this time.The deejay, whose real name is Carlton Grant, combined with soca star Kevin Lyttle to rise to the top of the Billboard Single Chart with the dancehall remix of Lyttle's 'Turn Me On'. The song climbed the charts for 12 weeks until August 12th, 2004 where it reached #1.

A massive crowd of 40,000 revelers turned out to Japan's largest Reggae festival, Yokohama Reggae SAI, last weekend -- to soak in the exhilarating energy of Mighty Crown, Mr. Vegas, High Energy, other guest Jamaican Reggae artists and a slew of top Japanese Reggae acts.

Saturday, August 16, 2008 in Yokohama, Japan was far from an ordinary day for Irish and Chin, Inc. clients, top-of-the line sound system and entertainment outfit Mighty Crown, phenomenal Dancehall artist Mr. Vegas and the stimulating dance crew High Energy. Impressively, this day commemorated the 17th anniversary of Mighty Crown in a colossal way, with a record-breaking 40,000 birthday guests in tow to share the experience.

Mighty Crown, who is fresh off the heels of a sold-out European tour, celebrated their birthday in style, spinning hits for their fans and well wishers. At any given moment during the show, they blasted the sounds of top Dancehall selections, which rippled through the packed arena. From start to finish, Mighty Crown's performance consistently evoked a roaring crowd. In addition to Mighty Crown dropping Reggae favorites, ace selector Sami T also donned the role of artist, lacing the venue with some of his latest music.




"We are more than pleased with the outcome of Yokohama Reggae SAI,"declares Sami T of Mighty Crown. "We never imagined that the event would evolve from 150 in attendance to 40,000..........over the years, we actually focused on the quality of the event rather than quantity."

But Mighty Crown couldn't rightfully take center stage for the full night because there were many acts to follow, including those from their Lifestyle Records imprint like Papa B (20 year music veteran) and a number of high profile Japanese Reggae artists. And of course, there were the special guest artists from Jamaica, who were kept a secret until that night.

The excited crowd erupted in applause when none other than Mr. Vegas took center stage. He rocked the swollen venue for his entire energetic set, capturing the undivided attention of his Japanese fans. Mr. Vegas consistently delivered flawless selections of timeless classics, new gems and his smash hits in Japan "Do You Know?" and "Up and Live." Mr. Vegas was last in Japan on a Mighty Crown tour in 2006.

"This is indisputably the largest audience that I have performed before in my career," says Mr. Vegas enthusiastically. "Japanese fans have a committed love of Reggae/Dancehall music, making this opportunity more than worthwhile."

A climactic moment of Mr. Vegas' stage show was a performance of High Energy, his background dancers that constantly bring the fire with pulsating dance moves and acrobatic feats. Throughout their segment, they received monstrous forwards. Led by Boricia Anthony Brown and Tishana Ellis, High Energy is blossoming in recognition, with requests for appearances through out the world.

Yokohama Reggae SAI was conceived in 1995 by Mighty Crown as a means of celebrating their anniversary in the business and highlighting Reggae/Dancehall entertainment in Japan. The festival continues to grow in magnitude and visibility. Plans for next year's Yokohama Reggae SAI are already under way.

Rihana is Not Broke

Rihanna being broke is the latest rumor in circulation on several international entertainment gossip websites and blogs. It said that her record label Def Jam. did not properly fund the R&B superstar Rihanna. However, the question is - can Rihanna be broke after her recent album Good Girl Gone Bad sold around 5 million copies worldwide?

According to information on nationnews.com a family member told the SATURDAY SUN these types of rumours come with the territory.

"We never addressed rumours in the past and we are not going to start now," said the member of Rihanna's family.

This is how the rumor got started

Stories have been appearing on several international websites and blogs that the Barbadian-born superstar only has US$20 000 left in the bank.

The information was brought to the public by a Patricia Williams, who claimed to be Rihanna's business manager who was fired by the Grammy-winning songbird.

The blogs read that Williams was fired after Rihanna discovered there was only US$20 000 in her bank account. The story was first published on Page Six, an on-line edition of the New York Post, from which Williams said she was fired "for no good reason, all in ignorance" and is "livid" with Rihanna and her management company Rebel One's decision to fire her.


"I'm a professional business manager, I have a staff of more than a dozen, I have worked for many high-profile actors, musicians, and multi-million dollar corporations. Why would I steal from Rihanna?

"I showed her all the paperwork and tried to explain to her the circumstances, but she wouldn't listen. She called me all sorts of horrible names and stormed off.

"I now feel compelled to share with the world the background story as I will not allow my name to be slandered".

The Barbados-born singer has had four back-to-back albums, including a re-release, since her debut, Pon De Replay, in 2005. According to Willliams, Marc Jordan, manager and owner of Rebel One Management, has been taking care of Rihanna's financial situation with her.

"Def Jam doesn't fund Rihanna properly, so Marc uses the money Rihanna makes from third-party endorsements and from tours to fund her album and music videos," she said.
"Since 2005, Rihanna has been sponsored by the likes of JC Penny, Samsung, CoverGirl, Secret, Venus Breeze [and so on], and has gone on two major tours, most recently . . . Kanye West's Glow in the Dark tour."

Williams said close to $750 000 was spent on the most recent video and single Disturbia, and that Rihanna made "a little bit above a million" and "all of it was spent on making her as big as she is now".

Bounty Killer fined $5000

The DJ who has been referred to as cross, angry and miserably was yesterday (Thursday, August 21) fined $5,000 when he appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate Court in St James.

The fine was in relation to charges of indecent language and disorderly conduct following his performance at the Dancehall Night staging of Reggae Sumfest last month.

Bounty Killa, during his performance, started dissing Beenie Man and was booed for it. In the midst of it all, the Killer uttered "a bag of" expletives and exited the stage in the wee hours of the morning.

He was immediately arrested and charged by members of the police force who were waiting at the foot of the stage.

Rumour has it that Miami Dolphins Coach Bill Parcell is interested in trying out the 6 foot 4 Olympic Champion Usain Bolt for the NFL.

It is reported that Parcell has always joked about trying out Bolt, but sources say that a scout for the Miami Dolphins is on his way to China to hold discussions with Usain's manager. So is it fact or rumour? Keep tuned.

Vybz Kartel and Mavado disses rain down on Self Defence Riddim

Once again, a war of words between Vybz Kartel and Mavado is brewing in the dancehall even amid all the euphoria that surrounds the phenomenal achievements in this year’s Olympics by Jamaican athletes.

According to industry insiders, Mavado started the war when he voiced Dem a Fag on Cordel ‘Skatta’ Burrell’s microwaved rhythm, Karate, which is now called the Self Defence. Mavado, in his diss song, makes references to Kartel’s tattoos and takes umbrage with a well-known Kartel about ‘not wanting to know God’. In the song, Mavado spits: him say dem a fag, ah battyman alone nuh waan know God, well bleach out and full a tattoo like Rod.

However, Kartel’s response, Weh Dat Fah is brilliantly caustic and delivered with chest-thumping swagger and fury, and the listener is immediately keyed into the head-knocking intensity of the track. He drops a kicker of a chorus where he reveals that he is having sex with Mavado’s mother while repeatedly asking 'wah dat fah?'; and for the umpteenth time, makes references to Mavado’s homosexual brother. He questions Mavado’s street credentials and calls him a ‘community barber’, draws attention to Mavado’s potentially blasphemous title, Gully Gadd, and declares that “Selassie is my Emperor’. Industry insiders said that Kartel had voiced a song called 'Send a Hell' before Mavado had voiced.

Efforts to get a comment from either artiste proved futile.

Reggae Singer Eek-A-Mouse Accused of Rape

The reggae singer known as Eek-A-Mouse was charged Sunday with rape and kidnapping after a 23-year-old woman reported she was held against her will at an Outer Banks motel, police say.

The musician, whose real name is Ripton Joseph Hylton, had performed at the Port O’ Call Restaurant & Gaslight Saloon on Saturday before leaving some time after the show ended Sunday about 1:30 a.m., said Kill Devil Hills police Lt. Gene Johnson.

According to Johnson, Hylton, 50, from Los Angeles, then went to the Colony IV Motel in Kill Devil Hills, where the woman said the rape took place.


Hylton was charged with first-degree kidnapping, second-degree rape and possession of cocaine, all felonies, Johnson said. He also was charged with possession of less than a half-ounce of marijuana, a misdemeanor.

He was released on $52,000 secured bond , Johnson said.

Before his gigs in Kill Devil Hills on Friday and Saturday, “Mouse” had appeared at the Jewish Mother on Aug. 14 in Virginia Beach.

Beenie Man fights woman backstage

It is reported that after performing at a sold out show in Stratford Rex, London, Beenie Man and a woman, allegedly D'Angel's sister, had a physical altercation.

Witnesses say that at approximately 4am Monday morning, while Beenie Man was backstage preparing to leave the venue, a woman approached him wanting to discuss money owed to her. Beenie Man who was leaving for Germany told her that he would talk to her upon his return to England. As he turned to walk away she grabbed his chain and broke it, at which time his security guards intervened.

However, Beenie Man's publicist, Ray Alexander, could not confirm the incident as he said that Beenie Man had not mentioned anything to him during their 8am phone call. He promised to speak to Beenie Man about the alleged incident in Germany the following day.

Beenie Man is presently on a one month long European tour and is scheduled to perform in Germany on August 19, Holland on August 23, 26 and 27, and Belgium, August 24.

Brittany Lyons in Miss Jamaica World 2008

Brittany Lyons who wore the sash Miss Logo Stitch was crowned miss Jamaica World 2008 last night at the Hilton Kingston Hotel in a grand coronation show. She beat out 15 other finalists for the coveted title and will represent Jamaica at the 2008 Miss World finals.

2nd place winner was Jade Grant, while 3rd place went to former Miss Jamaica Universe runner up Marshagay Reynolds. The top 5 include Raecine Williams who won the Miss Jamaica World Beauty with a Purpose prize and the sectional prize for Most Aware; and Chaka Laguerre.

Other sectional prizes include Most Congenial which went to Yanique Levy. She also was named Miss Jamaica World Sports. Miss Jamaica World Talent went to Marshagay Reynolds who delivered a horrible rendition of Celine Dion's To Love You More. Brittany Lyons was named Miss Jamaica World Beach Beauty, while 17 year old high school student Monique Daley was named Miss Jamaica World Model.


Lyons continues a tradition as far as beauty contests are concerned in her family. Her mother, Marie Clare Delapenha (daughter of one time sports caster Lindy Delapenha) placed 2nd in the Miss Jamaica World Beauty contest in 1980. Michelle Harris had won the competition that year.

Marie Clare would later gain fame in the Nadinola television commercial of the 1980's.

Olympic freestyle

Mavado said Jamaicans are On The Go for the Beijing Olympics and Wayne Marshall has Jamaicans living in The Moment. But there are other artistes whose spirits are just as high and so THE STAR decided to have some fun with them.

We called several artistes yesterday and asked them to coin lyrics on the spot supporting our athletes at the Games.

Known for her lyrical freestyling and ability to clash onstage, Queen Paula was quick to rearrange the lyrics of her song Dismiss Dem.

She sang, "Jamaica team inna di area, rule over all of/ flex wid di baller, no man Paula/ gi we weh a fi we mi nuh know weh di stall fa/ yuh nuh see we status getting taller/ Jamaica team come fi wi title, gi wi or stifle...wi ago dismiss dem"

She said she has been watching the Olympic Games and is optimistic about Jamaica's chances of medalling there. But she hopes that the team members think positive so that they can get the best possible results.

Ninja Man said he is also hoping that the team will perform well at the games. He said, "Whether win or lose the important thing is that they enter and make it to the end. Any sport dem do, mek sure seh wen dem done, the Jamaican flag a fly high."

His lyrics made on the spot showed why he is still being requested for lyrical clashes, after more than two decades in the dancehall business.

In a comical and quick manner, he deejayed, "Watch yuh slide, watch yuh slip/and go get ready now fi go Olympics/ nuh badda get up everyday fi go knock fist/ nuh come yah like yuh waan gun fi go clip/ jus tek up yuh foot and run fast like bullet/ and den yuh get yuhself in the Olympics, whether boxing yuh play, football yuh a kick/ all yuh haffi do a jus mek sure seh yuh quick/ a so dem get fi know seh wi mash up Olympics/ so hear Ninja Man a chat reggae music."

Like Ninja Man, General B of the Monster Empire has high expectations for the Jamaican team. He said he feels proud to see his fellow Jamaicans compete in the Olympics. Though he wants all of Jamaica's athletes to win at the Games; he is still satisfied that they are able to represent Jamaica on the world stage.

He sang, "After Jamaica seh to the world everything done set now/ Dat mean seh no fool caan come disrespect now/ Dis ya Olympic wi haffi inna it now/ Jamaica better than the rest and dem caan contest now."

Judging from these artistes' creativity and skills we are sure that in a few weeks, a number of songs praising our athletes' performances in Beijing, China, will be flooding the market.

Asafa or Bolt? Entertainers weigh in

As the two fastest men in history, Jamaicans Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell, will compete in the premiere track event of the Olympics, the 100 metre race.

The world sits on the edge of its seat, waiting to see who will take home the gold and Jamaicans, including those in entertainment, will watch - like the rest of us - and support them as they go for gold.

While the track and field events are what most Jamaicans will have their eyes on during the Olympics, it is anyone's guess as to which of the two will take the gold medal in the finals on Saturday.

Bolt set the new world record of 9.72 seconds for the 100 metre on May 31 in New York. He is also the world leader in the 200 metres with a time of 19.67 seconds. However on July 22 in Stockholm, Sweden at the DN Galan meet, Bolt was beaten by the former world record holder, Asafa Powell who had the previous record of 9.74 seconds.

For the women's finals, even though Veronica Campbell-Brown will not be qualifying for the 100 metre race, Jamaicans Sherone Simpson, Kerron Stewart and Shelly-Ann Fraser are competing in that race.

Campbell-Brown will go up against arch rival, Allyson Felix of the United States in the 200 metre race. Felix is the world champion with a time of 21.81 seconds and Campbell-Brown is the Olympic champion at 22.05 seconds.

Singjay Mavado, who recorded the song, On The Go, in tribute of the Jamaican athletes, says that he plans to watch the Olympics, especially the 100 metre race because of sprinter Asafa Powell.

"Asafa a mi runner, Usain a mi runner to, a Jamaican dem, suh a our runner dem, suh big up di whole a di yout dem whe a represent fi Jamaica," Mavado said.

Selector Jigsy, who was in Cayman when the STAR spoke with him, has been keeping track of the competitions at the Olympics. While he wishes for a Jamaican to come out on top, he too thinks Asafa will win.

"Mi nuh tink Usain a go beat Asafa. Asafa a go give him full 150 per cent. Yuh dun know a Veronica Campbell all di way and mi a go hype up Frater too so dat Jamaica can get one, two and three," Jigsy said.

However, not everyone is as enthused about the Olympics. Artiste Busy Signal admitted that he has not been following the Games and has taken no sides in the Asafa vs Bolt debate.

"We just waan big up Asafa and Bolt. Dem represent Jamaica, mi nuh tek nuh side. Thank God for those yutes and dem mus just bring home di whole of di ting dem. A Jamaica di sumting fi stay," he said.

STAR of the month Elephant Man offers a more involved perspective. The deejay is very opinionated when it comes to the Beijing Olympics, talking about the frequent blood tests that have been done on the Jamaican athletes.

Elephant Man told The STAR, "Mi nuh like how dem a draw out the whole a di runner dem blood. By the time dem fi run dem ago drop down. Two bottle! Weh dem ago run pon den?"

He continued, "It's one of the best times for Jamaicans to see the Olympics and we are one of the favourites: running, sprinting, a we a di favourite."

"Dem will put stone inna di road fi wi drop but wi ago run ova it. Right now it tight. Mi money deh pon di two a dem: Bolt and Asafa. But mi a put a extra energy pon Bolt. Mi know him from him a run a primary school and a mi fren like dat so mi just a bring him and give him mi support," Elephant Man said.

Radio personality Miss Kitty is enjoying the Olympics. She says she likes to watch gymnastics and water sports. But where the runners are concerned she says, "I'm for Asafa with a little Bolt, but I'm really rooting for both of them. In my heart I want both to win whether its gold or silver. That will be with them for life, they will always be an Olympian and the world record can always be broken another time."

As for the female competitors she says, "I'm really sorry Veronica won't be running the 100 metre. She's my favourite athlete, I love her humility and obvious hard work, I hope she comes home with something."

What really happened in Sweden with Sean Paul

Everyone has heard a different story about what really happened in Sweden with Sean Paul and other artistes. YardFlex has gotten an exclusive interview from an artiste, Limey Murray, who was at the venue in Sweden.

He explains that the attack was not just on Sean Paul, his band or management team, but on all the artistes who were present. This he explains was an attempt by the lawmen to control the speech of the artistes and was a direct attack on dancehall and reggae music.

Mr. Murray told YardFlex that the Police in Sweden interrogated the artistes, management and band members. They were placed in coaster buses and taken to this large auditorium where they had to do a urine test. The urine test was done to establish the presence of any traces of herb in the urine. If traces of herb were found during the urine test they would have to proceed by doing blood tests. The blood tests would show how long ago the artistes had engaged in herb smoking and if they had smoked the herb while in Sweden, seeing that it is an illegal substance in the country.

Meanwhile the artistes were being interrogated, he explains, they were going through their hotel rooms and dressing rooms, in an effort to locate the weed, which proved unsuccessful on every count. Even with the presence of dogs, they still did not find any weed in the possession of any of these individuals. Murray feels that this was a direct act of racial discrimination.

Not only did the police officers search for weed but they also checked their passports to see if they came to Sweden legally. After Mr. Murray was through being interrogated and returned to the hotel, Sean Paul still had not been released. Meanwhile Luciano, Richie Spice Queen Ifrica and other artistes were preparing to demonstrate in front of the police station to demonstrate their disgust.

Money Seized by Police Replaced with Counterfeit

Police in Spanish Town have a huge nut to crack at the moment, as money and other material confiscated by them in 2006 has seemingly disappeared from their safe holding area. Not only did the $800,000 and four cellphones fly the coup with no apparent explanation; the bills were also replaced by counterfeit notes, some of which were crudely photocopied.

Resident Magistrate Marcia Dunbar-Green ordered on Monday that charges against Anthony Barrett, Dushane Sweeny and Dalton Thomas be dropped, following successful litigation by defense attorney George Soutar. Charged with unlawful possession of $800,000 and other material; said to be unaccounted for, the men have appeared in court on many occasions since their arrest in late 2006.

Upon their acquittal, that was granted after the court learned the money seized was in fact properly accounted for and was to be used for the purchase of an automobile, the court ordered the money be returned to the accused men. It was then that the discovery of over $100,000 in counterfeit notes was made.

An investigation has been launched and defense attorney Soutar is
demanding it be thorough, since genuine notes were confiscated and the
same ought to be returned.

The latest incident took place at the Hype 2008 stage show, Independence Park, Black River, St. Elizabeth on Saturday, August 9, when Spice came on stage and lyrically 'dissed' Macka Diamond. The crowd expressed their delight when she accused Macka of wearing false teeth. Macka, however, chose to ignore Spice and performed like the true veteran of the business that she is.

Jamaican dancehall artiste, David 'Mavado' Brooks was freed of all charges in the Sav-la-Mar courts, arising out of an incident in Negril on August 3rd. Charged separately with assault and abusive language, Mavado appeared in the Petty Sessions Court in the town yesterday morning. Within two minutes he walked out freed of the abusive language charge, with the police not wishing to pursue the matter any further.

At a sitting of night court the same day, Mavado appeared in the Resident Magistrate's court to answer the assault charge, which was also dismissed in less 5 minutes. The complainant told the court he no longer wished to proceed with the matter and the Judge instructed Mavado he was "free to go."

"The incident and resulting media coverage were blown way out of proportion," said Mavado's manager Julian Jones-Griffith. "There were many independent witnesses present on the night who were prepared to come to court and testify that Mavado did absolutely nothing wrong, that he did not lay a finger on the complainant. Having said that we are glad sense prevailed and no more time was wasted on this matter by the justice system. Mavado was never even arrested on these charges. He's become a target for people and the media eager to make negative headlines out of his name but they only help to build him. He is 100% innocent of these charges and the dismissals prove that."

Sean Paul Arrested in Drug Sting

Jamaica’s reggae superstar Sean Paul ran into trouble with the law in Sweden during a drug sting on Friday at a Swedish reggae festival.

According to OutAroad.com’s source the deejay was searched along with several other artists by the law men and arrested for drug possession shortly after his performance at the Uppsala Reggae Festival.

Before the cops attempted to search Sean Paul and his boyz, they sent police dogs to Sean’s hotel room at the First Hotel Linne to snift for drugs.

According to X17online The First Hotel Linne's manager declined to comment on the situation to X17. Calls to Sean Paul's manager have not yet been returned. What do you think - are these charges gonna stick Like Glue?

Ce'cile makes Playboy

Dancehall artiste Ce'cile has never pretended to be a goody-two-shoes. Quite the opposite, in fact. So it should come as no surprise that this self-proclaimed 'bad gyal' has found her way into that steamy, in-demand publication, Playboy.

Since it's Playboy, the reviewer chose a picture of a seductively posed Ce'cile (fully clothed) with a headline stating that "Die Jamaikanerin Ce'cile mixt auf ihren debüt Reggae genial mit Hip Hop und Pop".

Ce'cile, who does in fact know a few words of German, says she was actually quite surprised when she was shown the article in the magazine. Although she knew that the record company was pulling out all the stops in this promotional campaign for the CD, she didn't quite have Playboy on her mind.

"This is Playboy we're talking about, and with the readership that they have, this is really great marketing and promotion for the CD," was her initial response. She then added, "It's a good feeling, who knows what will follow?"

She noted that some people, upon hearing, will probably think that her entry into Playboy was as a pin-up, "but what the hell?" she asked with a laugh. She said this was just another demonstration of the impact of reggae/dancehall music.

"Our music is multilingual and this is why people from all across Europe, many of them who don't speak English or Jamaican patois, can easily embrace the music and us the artistes," she noted.

Ce'cile recently returned from a tour of Europe, where she was promoting Bad Gyal, which is strictly for the European market.

Italy Crowns Tifa As The New Queen Of The Dancehall

Diva of the Dancehall, Latifa Brown a.k.a Tifa has set a blazing trail all across Europe. Over the last three weeks, this dancehall star has been touring across Europe, and has already had performances in Austria and Germany, with upcoming performances in Italy, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Switzerland and Berlin. Tifa and Ward 21 performed to over 4,000 to 5,000 screaming fans in Wuppertal, Germany who stayed in the pouring rain just to see these stars in action.
Leading up to Tifa's performance in Leece, Italy on the 10th of August, Tifa was featured on the cover of News Fever Magazine (Italian Publication), along with other great Jamaican acts and also received a full-page spread in which they crowned her as "La Nuova Regina Della Dancehall", which translates to "The New Queen of the Dancehall".
"I am not sure if I am deserving of that title as yet, but I am humbled and flattered that someone would think that of me", stated a noticeably excited Tifa when asked about her new title.
Since the Tour has begun, Tifa has already received numerous offers for future bookings, songs and album deals and is currently in negotiations to perform at a concert in Kenya in early December for over 66,000 patrons at the Kasarani Stadium.
Tifa's next stop will be at the Real Beat Higraid Reggae Festival in Czech Republic, where, Tifa will grace the stage as the first female Dancehall act ever to perform in the Czech Republic.
Tifa is still enjoying steady radio rotation for her songs, "Bottom of the Barrel" on the Estrogen Riddim, which is already featured on some of the local dancehall charts, as well as "Can't Stop me" on the Tear Up Jeans riddim. The Bottom of the Barrel Music Video has already been voted to the #10 spot on Hype TV.
Tifa's European tour began on July 18th and will continue until the 30th of August. This is is the first major tour for the artist who burst onto the dancehall scene in early 2005.

Beenie Bans Red Stripe Beer

Beenie Man stuck to his words last Wednesday night by not selling any Red Stripe products at Beenie Sizzle at Jamalco Sports Complex, Clarendon.
Products such as Guinness, Red Stripe Light, Red Stripe Beer and Heineken were not available at the event. The official drink was Mackeson Stout while Red Bull, Magnum and other hard liquor like Appleton Rum were on sale.

Earlier this year, in what was a controversial move, the brewing company withdrew its sponsorship from some dancehall live music events due to "violent and anti-social lyrics".

Voiced Disapproval After the announcement, several dancehall artistes, including Beenie Man, voiced their disapproval with their decision. Beenie Man stated that he would not sell any Red Stripe products at his event.

Beenie Man's publicist, Ray Alexander, said the vendors who rented booths inside the venue were not allowed to sell Red Stripe products, but they may have been brought in illegally.

"We are hoping the rest of promoters will join us in doing this. People were enjoying themselves without Red Stripe products. They didn't need it," said Alexander.

Dancehall deejay Spice is ready to 'bury the hatchet' on the feud with the self-proclaimed King of the Dancehall, Moses 'Beenie Man' Davis.
This is following Beenie's surprise appearance at Spice's birthday party, held last Monday night at Port Royal Street, Kingston.
It came as a surprise to the public, and to Spice herself, when 'The Doctor' showed up, decked out in matching red and white, at her birthday party, held aboard the Caribbean Queen.
Spice told The STAR yesterday, "To be honest, it was a surprise for me, I knew nothing about it, I had no idea he would come."
According to Spice, the two haven't been exactly on speaking terms, but they 'bucked up' at dances while she was promoting her birthday party. "I guess he decided to come and show some love. The music needs this right now, to bury the hatchet and move on. I'm happy to see him come out and support me. It was my party and it felt great," she said.
The two deejays have been at odds since the GT Taylor 'Extravaganza' show in St Elizabeth in December of 2006, when Beenie Man reportedly boxed Spice backstage. According to a report in the STAR titled, 'Spice boxed at GT Taylor show', Spice was approached backstage by Beenie Man's entourage, who told her to accompany them to see Beenie Man.
Spice had just come o ff stage after singing about the Beenie, Bounty and D'Angel situation. Beenie Man, apparently was not pleased with the song in which Spice denigrated his relationship with D'Angel. At that time the couple had not yet separated.
Spice said, "'Bout 20 man come fi me, say dem a carry me to Beenie Man and me ongle hear when him say 'Yuh fi go syuh modda. Yuh fi get a box inna yuh face.' Same time one of the youth dem wha a par wid him, box me, me nuh know a who, me only know when me get box."
She further explained that the confrontation stemmed from Beenie man's failed attempt at seducing her. According to Spice during a business trip to The Bahamas, Beenie Man had made sexual advances to her, which she rejected.
Following the incident, in February of 2007, Spice was reportedly removed from the line up of 'Strip Tease' because Beenie Man was unwilling to work on the show while she was billed.
However, Spice is now willing to put the past behind her for the betterment of the music business. While the artiste was not billed to perform at Beenie's Sizzle held on Wednesday night at the Jamalco Sports Club, she had every intention of attending as a patron.
"I didn't get any passes and I didn't want to just turn up, that's the only reason I didn't go, but I wanted to go ... my friends kept calling me and telling me you had to have passes to go in, so I didn't want to just show up like that with my crew," she said.
Beenie Man, who had just come off the impressive 'Beenie Sizzle' stage show could not be reached for comment up to press time.
In the meantime, Spice is happy about the way her birthday boat ride ball turned out, as the event proved to be a true 'paparazzi affair'.
