Dominica against Mavado's music

Mavado is again facing problems in regards to his lyrics. This time around it's from a prominent radio Disk Jockey, in Dominica, who has become a Christian. He has raised concerns as to whether Mavado should be allowed to perform at a show scheduled to be held in July.
There was an article published in Dominica addressing Mavado's lyrics and how negatively his blasphemous message has influenced the youths.

One of the writer's major concerns was why Mavado has to sing songs with lyrics suggesting he is above God. A typical example he explains is the popular church song entitled I am under the Rock. In this song he changes around the words to convey his message, the song now named "On the Rock." He explains that the song was originally written in relations to 1 Corinthians 10:4 which states that the children of Israel "Drank water from the Spiritual Rock that accompanied them, and that Rock was Christ." He has concluded that many countries refer to "crack/cocaine" as "rock" thus interpreting the song to mean "I am on crack."

Patron used a fake US$100 note with Macka Diamond

Macka Diamond who recently printed a batch of false US currency for promotional purposes with her face on one side was recently used by a patron to ordered a bottle of Hennessey at one of Kingston’s hottest weekly dancehall events.“Look good pon da US dey enuh!!!!” so was the cry of one of the bartendersThe bartender’s outburst, which got the attention of almost everyone in close proximity, was in reference to a US one-hundred dollar bill that was just handed to her fellow bartender for a bottle of Hennessy. Some were surprised, and some even took offence to her outburst, taking it as she styling the man, but when the smoke cleared it quickly became clear why she had acted the way she did.“Look pon dis, a wha do unuh, look pon dis!!!!!” - Just minutes before, someone had slipped her what appeared to be a real hundred US for a bottle of Hennessey, got change and left, only to find out after a closer look on the bill, that it was Macka Diamond’s face on it and not Benjamin Franklin.

First-timers for Reggae Sumfest

At Reggae Sumfest this year, according to Johnny Gourzong, a director of Summerfest Productions, organisers of Reggae Sumfest, a number of up-and-coming acts will be performing for the first time. This includes acts such as Serani, DeMarco, I - Octane, Courtney John, Terry Linen, D' Angel, Queen Ifrica and Konshens as solo acts.

Gourzong told THE STAR , "Sumfest is definitely a big deal for artistes, I think the production is certainly at a level. There are a number of International press that is there, so they get the chance to perform to a medium they otherwise might not get the chance to, as well as other cable channels. You have people coming down from VH1, BET and others."

According to Gourzong, he finds that artistes get to enhance their performances having to rehearse with a live band, they also get the chance to include backup singers and dancers that create a full show. Gourzong cites acts such as reggae singers Tarrus Riley, Jah Cure and Etana as having benefited from performing at the show.

"I remember when Tarrus Riley appeared as a back up singer for one of the acts. The following year, he approached me with his album, I gave it a listen and was really impressed. He came on a Saturday night and was great, now he's bigger and better to be a main act on Saturday, now he's a household name. Etana performed last year and in the last 12 months her career has taken great strides," Gourzong said.

For D' Angel, this is her first solo performance on Sumfest, having made a cameo alongside then husband Beenie Man in 2006 when she was pregnant. According to D' Angel, she has never performed on a platform this huge and is excited about the opportunity and is still shopping around for her Sumfest outfit.

"It's a great and awesome feeling to be on Sumfest. Words can't express and I'm gonna give it my best. Right now I'm pre-planning, cause is a big staged event and I want to give it my all, so fans will see an Angel they have never seen before," she commented. D' Angel will be appearing on Thursday's Dancehall night.

These acts aren't the only new acts to get a boost from Sumfest with an opening segment of fresh acts performing each night before the major acts. These acts get the experience and exposure from being on the show.

As for the line-up, rapper Lil' Wayne who has popular hits such as Lollipop, has been added to Friday's line-up alongside Keisha Cole. According to Gourzong, the International act for Saturday night has still not been confirmed.

Twin of Twins angry song not played on radio

The Twin of Twins, Paul 'Tu Lox' Gaynor and Patrick 'Curly Lox' Gaynor say their songs have been banned from local radio stations because of its content.

In a release, the Twins said, "Once again the Jamaican media, particularly the radio stations ZIP and FAME FM show their spineless bias and hypocrisy by banning the very thought-provoking and hard-hitting Twin of Twins song How Come. It has been quoted by unnamed sources that one of the 'parties' mentioned in the song by the Twins as having 'allegedly' committed certain crimes, has had their high-priced lawyers threaten to sue the stations if they kept playing the song."

The release continued, "Meanwhile the same radio stations are happy to play the titles performed by artistes that both promote and advocate violence and degrade women. They still continue to play songs by artistes that promote sexual promiscuity and encourage teenagers to engage in activities that are unfit for minors."

However, Stephen Greig, attorney-at-law and company secretary for the RJR Communications Group, which includes FAME FM, RJR and Hitz 92 FM, among other stations, says the song has not been banned.

"There is not a ban on the song. We have reviewed the song in question and, from a legal point of view, there are a number of statements that we cannot substantiate. Out of caution, those parts of the song cannot be aired," Greig told THE STAR.

"We don't want to expose the company to any lawsuits. There are certain parts of the song that could be contentious. If it was edited, we could look at it again," he said.

Efforts to contact station manager of Zip FM, D'Adra Williams, proved futile up to press time. However, Brain Schmidt, marketing manager of Irie FM, which owns Zip FM, told the STAR that he was not aware of a ban on the song.

"How come di Government a fight Cash Plus ... How come fish inna church an' di church nuh tek a stance?/ How come gays give Jamaica deadline? Dem mussi waan mek another headline ..."
However, Curly Lox said he is not surprised the song is not being played because he knows the orders are coming from those in authority.

"We have mixed feelings 'cause we know what it's all about. We know it's coming from higher up. It (the song) is stepping on a few toes. Wi nuh blame anyone 'cause it may even be bigger than FAME FM," Curly Lox told THE STAR.

He says he does not expect to be treated fairly when he speaks the truth, but he will not compromise his morals and beliefs.

He says there are other Twin of Twins songs that have been silently banned from radio stations, among them, Wi Nah Trust No Rising Stars, as well as counteractions to Beenie Man that were recorded during their feud with him.

"The song has more questions than answers. The song is about questions, so if wi did give the answers a weh dem woulda do wi? I did not create the situation nor did I convict them of a crime," he said.

Busy's lyrics sending wrong signals

Another artiste is now receiving a hard time because of his violent lyrics. Promoters of the 12th Annual St. Kitts Music Festival have been expressing concern since the line up of artistes for the show has been released. They fear that the use of profanity, lyrics promoting violence and sexual acts will be on display.

The main artiste for this event is Busy Signal. The promoters are however worried as they feel his lyrics are violence based.

They have argued that everyone knows Busy Signal for his "gangsta" lyrics which have been perceived to persuade people to use violence to resolve issues. This is depicted in his breakout hit single "Step Out", a line from which goes: "Afta mi step out, inna mi black, have glock, unda mi throwback. Shot holla pon spot, Badman nuh tek back chat..." and "Bwoy disrespect, Mi get mi guns fi do a fine job". The promoters fear that Busy's lyrics will not be appropriate and are too violent for him to be on the show.

Violence in the Caribbean, especially Jamaica, has been on the rise, so people are questioning whether the Music Festival Committee's choice to allow Busy to be a part of the show will just add fuel to fire. They are taking into consideration that Busy's fan base consists of teenagers, mostly males, and his lyrics are not portraying a positive message. Although Busy Signal was selected on the basis of his popularity, concerned individuals are still questioning this move.

The CEO for the St. Kitts Music Festival, Alistair Williams, has advised the public that this event is known to offer a broad blend of musical expressions and therefore whoever is slated to perform will be advised that their lyrics have to be appropriate in terms of the contract that will be established. This he explains is a surety as it is a part of the Festival's artiste contract that explicit language will not be allowed.

Kingston Unsafe

Kingston is the 31st most dangerous city in the world to live in, according to a global ratings agency report issued earlier this month.

On the quality of life scale - surveying crime, health and sanitation, among other socio-economic indices - Kingston is ranked 137th out of 215 cities.

Mercer is an international agency that rates cities worldwide in terms of personal safety and standard of living which informs investment firms.

According to Mercer, Luxem-bourg in Western Europe is the safest city in the world. Conversely, a person in Kingston is not safer than a citizen of Harare, the capital of Robert Mugabe's violence-torn Zimbabwe. Both cities are ranked at 184.

Unfair
Deputy Commissioner of Police Mark Shields, Jamaica's crime czar, scoffed yesterday at Kingston's low ranking, saying it was unfair.

"I think it is safer here than in Zimbabwe," he said.

"Sometimes, the assessment of Jamaica is too high. Those who are doing the ranking do not understand, for instance, that 80 per cent of the homicides here are gang related," Shields added.

He said people were quite safe in Kingston compared to London and other cities in developed countries.

Murder records
At least 800 persons have been killed in Jamaica in 2008, this May - with 199 murders - being the bloodiest month in recorded history.

Kingston and St Andrew accounted for 723, or nearly 50 per cent, of homicides in 2007, which was the second bloodiest year ever with a total of 1,574 murders.

The Iraqi capital Baghdad is the most hazardous city in the world, Mercer said. It has also ranked the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince at 194, one place below Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa.

In determining personal safety, Mercer identifies those cities with the highest personal safety ranking based on internal stability, crime, effectiveness of law enforcement and relationships with other countries.

Meanwhile, as it relates to living standards, Zurich, Switzerland, tops the list of cities. Kingston has improved one place over last year's ranking.

Weak upliftment
Central Kingston Member of Parliament Ronald Thwaites, who has moved in the House of Representatives for steps to be taken to improve the housing stock in the city, is not surprised by the findings of the report.

"I am not surprised at all. Investment in the upliftment of downtown Kingston has been very weak for many years," Thwaites said.

He added: "For residential accommodation, it is almost impossible to get a mortgage below Cross Roads. If you don't have capital being invested, the infrastructure deteriorates and the human condition is demeaned."

The building of inner-city housing and the enrolment of more persons for social-security benefits are a few ways in which the Government has attempted to correct Kingston's ills. Yesterday, when The Gleaner traversed some of Kingston's communities, the signs of social decadence were rife. Uncollected garbage, a plethora of zinc fences and run-down houses told the story of urban blight.

Stimulus
Thwaites told The Gleaner that he wants Jamaica to use Kingston's unfavourable rating as a stimulus for new interest in the inner city.

Meanwhile, aside from Nassau, Bahamas, which is ranked at 111 in terms of standard of living, and 51st for personal safety, no other English-speaking Caribbean country is captured by the survey.

Havana, the capital of the communist Cuba, is ranked 188th in quality of life.
War-wracked Baghdad is glued to the bottom of the security and quality of life scale.

Milk a Soak delivers the laughs...

WHY WON'T THEY LEAVE MILK ALONE
I read in some paper yesterday that some comedian, Tattwu, did a comedy routine about 'Milk a Soak' in some fake Chinese shopkeeper accent. The jist of the routine is people keep coming to his shop for milk but he says that he has none because the 'Milk a Soak' referring to the frozen bags of milk that Jamaicans often defrost by putting them to soak in water. The way he says it sound like 'Milk a Suck'. I hear that A.K.A has a copy inna the office but mi no listen to it good yet. Anyway, people still ah bun her out, mi listen to Fae Ellington give it to her on Uncensored on FAME, but Tanya ah defend her right to privacy but the fallout continues. Big up mi boss Claude Mills who was also on the programme, I think he made a good point about us missing an opportunity to have a national conversation about sex and the ancient taboos we have about it in our society, especially in light of the fact that people are lying about their degree of condom use in intimate situations. Memba fi use a condom, no glove, no love. Or you can just buy a Daggering, Vybz Kartel's new line.

KARTEL AND D'ANGEL EQUALS DAGGERING
Speaking about daggering, mi see A.K.A write a story say Kartel ah deny say him de wid D'Angel but him can stay de a tek talk from Kartel, nobody caan tell me nutten. A man like Kartel nah just par up wid D'Angel so and she nah get no daggering. Fi one, the public no rate her, but still, every man waan date her, worse dem girlfriends dem hate her, so the man nah par wid har unless tings a gwaan, after him anno bait, star? How mi sound? Yu like mi rhyming? SEX IN

CHERINE DOES REMIX WITH MADONNA
Big up to Cherine Anderson, we love fi see the beautiful black girls who not bleaching and who are doing well in the business. Big up Patrick Lindsay -- Sly and Robbie and Cherine Anderson's manager - who confirmed that Cherine had done a remix with Madonna, but that they finally got the approval last week Thursday to release it.

THE PEOPLE WAAN FI KNOW?
Why Bwoy George caan get no visa? So Jamaican artistes are not alone in this regard, but I believe it is for vastly different reasons. The man dem need fi get back dem visa and not be in the same category as this dude, fi real.

Cecile's ready to Ride or Die

Dancehall's 'bad gyal', Ce'Cile, is currently here in Jamaica promoting her two new singles Ride or Die and So Fly, which features Beenie Man.

Ce'Cile recently rocked her fans when she performed at the Big Jam Rock Reggae Fest at the Hammerstein Ballroom in the United States along with Beenie Man and Mr. Vegas.

The sexy siren took Boston's Club Lido by storm, performing alongside Elephant Man and all the ladies singing her anthem, Waiting as well as favorites like Can U Do Di Wuk? and Aint Nutten For Free, but it was her underground song P Good that had the ladies screaming in agreement.

She also performed at Water Street Music Hall in Rochester, New York on the same bill as Shaggy, Daville and Elephant Man, where again P Good was the song that got the largest crowd reaction.

Ce'Cile leaves the island this Thursday for the Turks & Caicos Islands for a show on Friday, and then it's off to Europe for a month-long tour to promote the European release of her album, Bad Gyal.

While in Europe, she will perform at the major reggae festivals on that continent. She is booked to appear at Reggae Summer Jam in Cologne, Splash Festival in Leipzig both in Germany; 77 Splash in Amsterdam, The Netherlands; Italy's Rototom Sunsplash; the Frauenfeld Open Air Festival in Switzerland; Delta Music Festival in Lisbon, Portugal; Reggae Fest in Bilboa, Spain and several other performances. Ce'Cile will then head back to the Caribbean for a performance in Guyana on July 26th.

Ninja Man in Canada after 21 years

Dressed in all white, Ninja Man took his seat at the front of the conference centre, appearing relaxed, and focused on discussing the One Umbrella Movement and its' organization, which promotes non-violence, especially amongst the youth.

"There is no one better than me to head this movement. Bounty can't do it; Beenie Man can't do it. Only a man like me who has lived the life I've lived can be a role model to these youths, and telling them that if they go the path of drugs, they will end up like this, or if they take up a gun, they will end up like that. I've been down that road, which everyone knows, and it's time for me to take up this cause to save the youths from a life that's not good. I know; I've been there as everybody knows. The only two other man who could do this is Josie Whales, or Super Cat. We know that violence will never be eliminated, but we can at least bring violence down, and I am going to do it"! So said Ninja Man when asked how his life's experience has prepared him for this role.

It's been 21 years since Ninja Man has touched Canadian soil, but this past weekend put that two decade absence to an end as Ninja Man, escorted by his wife, held a press conference at York University promoting the One Umbrella Movement founded by the Don Gargon himself.

"The press conference is being held to let the people know that after 21 years, Ninja Man is able to travel to Canada and also to spread awareness for the One Umbrella Movement" said Fabian 'Fabo' Hanson of Vibes Entertainment, who is responsible for obtaining Ninja Man's travel documents to Canada, as well as the United States. Fabo, long time business man, promoter and immigration consultant, has been chosen by Ninja to head the Canadian chapter of the One Umbrella Movement. The One Umbrella Movement was officially launched in Jamaica December, of 2007.

Ninja Man extended the invitation to community leaders and non-leaders urging everyone to play an important role. "A leader may be in a position to donate things we need, which is good. A non leader might only be able to negotiate peace between two youths warring; we still need him too". Ninja made it clear that he is the overall head of the organization, including chapters in other countries as he seriously joked with conference attendees when saying "Ah me run di program no matta which part ah di world me ah deal wid. Dem haffi do weh me tell dem fi do"!

Ninja Man, in association with Vibes Entertainment, will hold a concert on August 15th, 2008 in Toronto at The Kool Haus 132 Queen Quay East.

Kartel denies intimate relationship with D'Angel

Deejay Vybz Kartel a.k.a Addi the Teacha has denied that he and D’Angel are involved in an intimate relationship, and stressed that they're more than friends, they "are family'.

“What you see is what you get. D’Angel and I have known each other for many years, is not just a friend ting, it is family. Crazy people have been talking since they saw us at a dance in Barbican on Sunday and later on at the Quad, but what you see is what you get, is a family ting, we are both artistes, we collaborate on projects and that is it,” he told one876entertainment.com.

Vybz Kartel and D’Angel scored a number one combination hit, Babyfather, several months ago in the height of the controversy when Kartel left the Alliance and was involved in a war of words with Bounty Killer and his protégé, Mavado. He also attended the wedding festivities of Beenie and D’Angel when he was still a full-fledged member of the Alliance. He and D'Angel also collaborated on a single that appeared to poke fun at Beenie Man late last year but that song fizzled soon after its release.

Kartel, Angel and Killa buck up at Quad...

KARTEL AND KILLA BUCK UP AT QUAD
Clubbers at Quad got a rare treat when deejay Vybz Kartel dropped by on Saturday night with a 25-strong entourage in tow and at least one superstar friend, the beautiful Michelle ‘D’Angel’ Downer, and members of the Portmore Empire such as Sean Storm, Blak Ryno, Lisa Hype, Omeil, Doza Medicine and Vybz Rum business partner Corey Todd. Bounty Killer dropped by the club at about the same time and waited till Kartel was inside before he entered. When Kartel and D’Angel finally went upstairs, the stars did not hail Bounty Killer but moved past him surrounded by a phalanx of security personnel. The deejay then partied up a storm, drinking Henny and dancing to all the latest tunes. He gave the biggest forward to Ryno’s ‘Mek Di Paper’ but the crowd’s biggest forwards were reserved for him and Mavado. When the selector played Nah Go Nowhere, the forwards were deafening, some patrons grabbing ashtrays and beating them on the bar counter, and when that immediately followed up by ‘Broad Daylight’, there was a cacophony of noise consisting of shouted forwards, finger gun salutes and banging on the bar counter. Mavado’s ‘Nuh Bleach a Night’, and On the Rock, and Killa’s ‘Nuh Friend Fish’ also got big forwards, and Killer had a big grin on his face when these songs played. Kartel, for his part, danced to all the Mavado songs, and chatted with D’Angel, mugged for shots with adoring female fans. And it was all incident free. Wonder how the Killer feel about these two hanging out together? He cannot be pleased.

DELANO LOSES LAPTOP

Delano of Renaissance has been wringing his hands in despair since his laptop was stolen in the Quad parking lot. If you have any information regarding the whereabouts of his laptop, you can contact him at 3740887. We here at one876 can only hope that no ‘sensitive’ material is on said laptop especially in light of what has been happening in recent weeks.

HOPETON LINDO MARKS REGGAE BOYS 'TERRITORY'

After Reggae Boyz shellacking of the Bahamians* (sorry not every good at sports) with a 7-0 drubbing following by a 6-0 mauling, Hopeton Lindo of Territory fame has recorded a special for the Reggae Boyz which he hopes will be played during half-time during their next home match.“Living in the USA, we pay close attention to the achievements of our Jamaican sportsmen and women in the areas of track, football and netball and I did this special with a sense of pride in the remarkable achievements of our island nation on the international stage,” Lindo was quoted as saying in a press release.

Show Off Because of Airport Threat

The police have refused to grant the promoters of Finish Line a permit because violent clashes they say may develop between headliners Mavado and Vbyz Kartel or their supporters.

Finish Line: The Summer Edition, was scheduled for today at the Palisadoes Go-Kart Track. However, Superintendent Assan Thompson of the Kingston Eastern Police Division said he had not granted permission for the event to be held in the division.
"I have received intelligence that persons appearing on the event are likely to have violent clashes which might result in firearm usage and affect the security and safety of the Norman Manley International Airport," Thompson told THE STAR.

He added, "The notice to me I received 24 hours ago and that would not give me enough time to sufficiently and effectively police an event of that nature. On that basis I have refused a permit."
Thompson said he is open to discussions with the promoter but they would have to assure him that the event will be safe and that the artistes would not resort to any form of violence.

In March, the promoters were not granted permission to host the event at Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre. The Finish Line: Summer Edition, Stop The Violence should have been held at the Police Officers' Club but the location was changed to the Palisadoes Go-Kart Track earlier this week when the police said the noise from the event might affect the nearby Andrews Memorial Hospital.

Maurice Williams, one of the promoters for Finish Line, is upset about the new developments as he says he will lose millions and it would affect the credibility of the event and its sponsors.
"It's just crazy! We will be losing millions again in promotion and the high production of the event. We don't want to decrease the credibility of the event's name. They (police) are destroying the character of the event. We are going to take this to court," he said.

He added, "I can't even explain how I feel 'bout it. Dem seh dem a stop it cause Mavado and Kartel deh pon it and there might be violence or gun violence but this is a peace event so it is an event that they should endorse. It has been incident-free for the past six years."

He said he did not see the reason for the police's decision as Mavado and Vybz Kartel have performed on the same event in the past and are booked for upcoming events.
Williams said he might wait until next year to host Finish Line after Boys and Girls Championship.

"Wi nuh want it reach di point where wi seh 'Finish Line' an' people seh 'dat again'," he said.

Kartel asks public to name his upcoming line of condoms

Vybz Kartel has teamed up again with his business partner Corey Todd -- with whom he did his premium liquor, Vybz Rum -- to launch a line of condoms for the Jamaican market.

“The brand is on schedule to hit the market in late July or early August,” Todd told One876Entertainment.com in an exclusive interview.

According to Todd, the decision to produce the condom is “not only a very sound business decision but a good idea to promote the concept of safe sex”.

“We believe that Jamaicans must continue to practise safe sex and we hope that Kartel’s mass appeal will encourage more people to practise safe sex, especially in this age of HIV/AIDS which has destroyed the black communities in the US, Africa and the Caribbean. We also plan to give back a percentage of the sales to help with HIV/ AIDS awareness and prevention campaigns in Jamaica,” Todd told One876Entertainment.com.

Kartel was pleased with the joint venture which he believes will be highly successful.

“This is something that I have always wanted to do, and we’re going to take it to the masses, it is full time that we create our own industries and build our own communities by reinvesting in them,” the deejay told a reporter. While he did not disclose details of the deal, it is believed that he is investing his own money in this venture.

Kartel is asking his fans to send in name suggestions for the brand over the next two weeks to namethecondom@gmail.com. If we choose your name then you and a guest will win a free weekend at Hedonism 3. Runners up will receive three free bottles of Vybz Rum.

Kartel will also be looking for a young lady to grace the ad campaign if you are interested please send your pictures, and contact info to namethecondom@gmail.com.

Earlier this year, the National Family Planning Board launched a second generation female condom to give women increased control over HIV/AIDS prevention methods. There is some amount of concern over decreased condom use especially in light of the recent rash of sex videos featuring teenagers and well-known people indulging in unprotected sex. In Jamaica, where 1.6% of adults are HIV-positive, two-thirds became so through heterosexual contact, says the health ministry. A recent KAP behavioural study conducted by the epidemiology unit in the Ministry of Health suggested that …”awareness of AIDS and how it is prevented is high in Jamaica (over 90%) and condom use has increased due to sustained condom promotion programs”.

“All sexually active adults are encouraged to use the condom everytime. Nevertheless, there remains a significant number of persons with multiple sex partners who do not use condoms,” the study concluded.

Liquid Threatened by Unknown Men over Milk Sex Tape Fallout

Word on the street is that ZJ Liquid is being threatened because he has not had any action taken against him in the role he played in the now infamous Milk sex footage that has been downloaded and disseminated across the Internet since it broke last week.
“Somebody called the station to say that Liquid should not be on air if Milk cannot be on air. At first, this wasn’t taken too seriously, but a vehicle was seen driving up and down the street outside the ZIP station, however the security guard failed to get the licence number of the vehicle,” one source told one876entertainment yesterday.

It is not clear whether the threat has been reported as attempts to speak to Milk or Liquid proved futile. Both parties have repeatedly said, however, that they want to move on with their lives as the act took place between two consenting adults in the privacy of their bedroom. In the meantime, the fallout from the footage continues to mushroom. Milk did not appear on her regular slot on CVM TV's Hitlist last week Saturday and she is also expected to miss today's taping of the show. She had been on 'administrative leave' when the incident broke but returned to work on Monday of this week.

Junior Reid Rocks Toronto Festival

Junior Reid returned to the island earlier this week after a highly successful showing at the weekend-long Luminat’eau: Carnival H20.

“The fans dem come out, at least 10,000 by my estimation, and the show was well received. I worked my regular set but I added Don’t Play Me Dirty, my new single, and promoted my upcoming album, The Living Legend. I also gave away several copies of my promotional CD through a street team that was aggressively giving it out to the public,” he told one876entertainment this week.

“I closed the show that night which also had other Canadian acts and artistes from the small islands.”

The festival was a sequel to last year’s Carnivalissima in Toronto. Besides Junior Reid, there were several musical acts such as water instrument inventor Steve Mann, the Water Ball (“an underwater fantasy world”), a Boat Lighting Competition, food, films and kids’ activities. It was held at the Harbourfront Centre at Queens Quay W in downtown Toronto.

Junior Reid will be appearing on an episode fo TVJ’s entertainment magazine, Intense, this weekend.

Make Boyz Cry - Busted (Mini Movie)

Danielle collapses after gym session, hospitalized

Danielle a.k.a DI was hospitalized for exhaustion and dehydration yesterday when she collapsed suddenly after an intense workout session in the gym. She has received intravenous fluids and ordered to have two weeks of bed rest."I have been on a rigourous exercise programme and I never ate anything the day, and I went to my room and my mom was calling me and I wasn’t able to respond, like I passed out, just fainted, knock out. They took me to the hospital, and they put me on a drip, the doctors said I was overworked and physically exhausted,” she explained to One876Entertainment.com this morning. She has lost over 25 pounds in the last four weeks.

D.I.'s hospitalization has forced the cancellation of her video shoot with Kimala ‘Lala’ Bennett, scheduled studio sessions with top producers as well as postponed performances in Florida.

“I guess I am going to have to postpone the shoot until later in the week, but I will try to keep as hydrated as possible from now on.”

She had planned to shoot the video for the ‘Beat It’ remix featuring Vybz Kartel and her latest single, ‘Ready Body’.

Hot fashion from CFW

While Keneea Linton and Poshe designs were undoubtedly the best on show at Caribbean Fashionweek (CFW) on Saturday night, American rapper and designer Eve created quite a stir.
During the first break it was announced that the rapper was at the show. Immediately, she was bombarded with video and still cameras by patrons and media personnel wanting to meet the celebrity. The host, Dawn Lisa Calendar-Smith, had to be pleading to the people to get off the runway to avoid injury to the models. Her pleas fell on deaf ears as the people wanted to meet the star.

During the break, Pulse CEO Kingsley Cooper presented the Caribbean Fashion Master Awards to designers Claudia Pegus and Meiling for helping to develop the Caribbean fashion industry. Cooper also acknowledged dancehall artiste Lady Saw, Cherine Anderson and reggae legend Lee 'Scratch' Perry who were in the house.

Show One started with swimwear from Mushroom in bright colours like orange, green, pink, yellow, green and red. Metallic, mesh and stripes were also included in this collection.

Simple line

Denis Davead was one of the better designers for the night as the pieces were sophisticated and showed creativity. There was a wide variety of pieces, with the designer using ruffles, metallic, pleats and floral prints to give the trendy look.

Before Fifth Element was shown, the host said the line should only be worn by self-confident people. The pieces did not make as bold a statement as expected but they were decent.
Meiling started Show Two with loose fitting dresses of bright colours. She used tie and dye, frills and linen.

She made way for Keneea Linton, who simply amazed the crowd with her pieces. She started her line with a cream and black knee length dress on which she used silk and a patterned mesh. The details at the back were intricate as she managed to include the mesh as part of the pleats. There was also a tube top gold dress that was metallic at the top and silk from the waist down. The dress swept the floor and the model wore it gracefully. Linton was one of the best to show at CFW as the patrons had to focus on the elegance of every design.

Trendy designs

Poshe designs were more trendy as many short pieces were shown during this collection. The designs had many interesting cut-outs and a combination of prints and textures.
While Sushama Patel had only white designs, they were not entirely simple. She managed to include frills, crochet, sheer and metallic. The models, including a child, actress Vanessa Williams and Miss Jamaica Universe April Jackson, were graceful on the catwalk.

Yahooda had an African concept with soft cotton designs that were close-fitting and had ties and wraps. Some of Sandra Kennedy's pieces had a 60s look but most of them had plain linen cuts.

Yardmanstyle was rather vibrant as the models moved to the rhythm of Assassin's Yard Man. They modelled in black hats with bright-coloured tank tops, T-shirts and windbreakers. As the men walked the runway they clicked their fingers to Erup's Click Mi Finger, making the presentation interesting.

The show ended with The Cloth with models walking to the music of a vibrant band. They wore dramatic make-up and were expressive. Some sat on small stools placed along the runway. As they sat they wrote statements such as Teck Weh Yuhself on the runway.

Beenie Man set to devastate Reggae Sumfest '08

Beenie Man is in an all-time good and optimistic mood and anxiously looking forward to this year's staging of Reggae Sumfest 2008.With the stakes very high and the promoters putting together an event with a strong line-up of the best of the best veterans and dancehall's hottest and latest newcomers to the business, the entertainer who has remained consistent for over three decades is taking no chances with the covetous title he now boasts - 'king of the dancehall'.

Not just a recording artiste, but also full-fledged stage performer, Beenie Man is quite busy choreographing new dance moves, making new lyrics and getting his designer to come up with the most eye-catching and hottest outfits that will give him a shot at the 'best dress artiste' title.

Beenie Man enjoys taking up challenges such as these big events where he can get the chance to put his exceptional talent on display. He is very good at what he does, but at the same time he is not going to ignore the fact that there are several other artistes out there who are going to do their best to stop him in his musical tracks. Several have tried and failed. When you think that he is down and out, he just rises like the Phoenix.

Beenie Man had two of the hottest dancehall and chart topping singles locally and internationally in 2007 - 'Back It Up' and 'Give It Up' featuring Barbie. This year he has added another number one to his collection with 'Wine Gal'. Two other singles, 'Gimme Lickle' and 'Yuh Know How Fi Wine', are also destined for the number one slot on the major charts and in the dancehalls.
Slated to perform on this year's Reggae Sumfest Dancehall Night on July 17 are: Spice, Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Elephant Man, Mavado, Busy Signal, Vybz Kartel, Anthony B,I-Octane, Erup, Ninja Man, Macka Diamond, Wayne Marshall, Voicemail, Demarco, Little Hero, Harry Toddler, Sirani, Shane-O and Di, among others.

Reggae Sumfest 2008 dancehall festivities will be staged from July 13-19 in Montego Bay, St. James.

BOUNTY-FUL BIRTHDAY BASH!

Bounty Killer wasn't his usual cross, angry and miserable self last Sunday. Instead, 'The Warlord' was in a more jubilant mood as he celebrated his birthday at his It's Tha Pool Party, staged at Norbury Drive, St Andrew.

The Killer's mood was indicative of someone who was 'rich and happy' as he partied with his friends and fans.

The women came out in their numbers and most were sexily clad in bikinis that left little to the imagination. The 'thugs' were also out, and the 'high rollers' ensured that the Hennessey flowed freely from the bar.

Uidealistic venue
While the party was good, the venue probably was not ideal as the focus of the partying and frolicking was on an elevated pool deck slated for VIP and sexy girls only. At times, especially in the earlier part of the party, it was as if those persons on the lawn area below the VIP area were isolated. It was as if the party vibes was not transcending the boundaries of the VIP area.

This changed immediately when Tony Matterhorn took over selecting duties about 11:56 p.m. "Mi ago start wid a Bounty tune because a fi him birthday," Matterhorn said as the patrons roared when Bounty's voice emitted from the speakers deejaying Gal.

Strickly for the ladies
Matterhorn mixed strictly for the ladies dropping hits such as Bounty Killer's Gal Dem a Ride Mi Nature and Beenie Man's Back It Up and Wine Gal. The tempo was turned up a notch as Matterhorn asked the girls to Siddung Pon It before Busy placed them Pon Di Edge and Kartel instructed them to Tick Tock.

Prior to Matterhorn, Colin Hines dropped some pulsating mixing that nurtured the vibes already created by Stone Love. At this time, the pool seemed irresistible for some of the female patrons who yielded to the temptation and jumped in.

It was a night of 'flossing' and one of the best ways to do this seemed to be to play the role in terms attire and liquor consumption.

However, the selectors did it in their own way. Flippa Mafia's Dem Yah was one of their favourite selections as was 50 Cent's I Get Money, Vybz Kartel's Trailor Load a Money and Mavado's Money Changer.

Dancehall newcomer Konshens also received some love from the patrons who roared for Winner after it was 'rinsed' several times by the various selectors.

Alliance in support
The Alliance members were out to support their 'leader' and THE STAR team spotted Mavado, Bling Dawg, Wayne Marshall, Elephant Man, among others at the party. Also there to show their support were Assassin, Serani, Shane-O and several other entertainers. TV host Milk turned heads, and Chi Ching Ching looked dapper in his all-white attire.

When THE STAR team left the venue at 12:30 a.m. The Killer still hadn't cut his cakes, several patrons were still enjoying the water slide and Tony Matterhorn was still performing. The vibes had become stagnant and several police were lurking about the venue.

Nesbeth Shoots 'Guns Out' video in Jones Town

On Saturday, June 14th, In one scene, an informer, an elderly man, makes a phone call when he sees a murder go down in the middle of the road, and in another, an argument between two men turns violent when one guns down the other even as the victim's mother screams 'do, no kill mi one son'.

Nesbeth sees the second murder while prips around the corner of his porch, and the murderer, even as he makes good his escape, waves the gun in the Nesbeth's direction, forcing him to take evasive action from the gunman. The shoot used local talent from the area to bring the dramatizations to life.

"We started at about a quarter to nine and we did the performance shot first with Nesbeth singing the song in the middle of the crime scene location with the police and the chalk outline. We had children playing the keyboard and on actual recorders as well," music video director Carlo 'Amlak' Less of Flim Jamaica said.

"We shot action sequences the rest of the day, with the event that occurred that caused the ruption in the community, the murder of a man. We used all local talent and that was important to us because this is Nesbeth's community…one of the children is an accomplished player of the recorder."

Amlak has shot videos such as Gyptian's Mama and Queen Ifrica's 'Daddy Don't Touch Me There'.Leonie Brooks played the victim's mother, Clifton King a.k.a Ferocious played the victim while Adrian Thomas played the gunman.

"It is not a hard thing for me to do," Adrian who is a dancer out of the Tuff a Like crew said.
Aldred Williams, a sixtysomething year old man, shot the scene where he played an informer.
"I just feel to play that role, " he said. "I feel it will big me up, I don't care what people want to say, I have the majority."

Nesbeth, who seemed stoked and excited that the video was being shot, praised the actors and the director on their work.

"This is going to be a great video, a real work of art depicting life in the inner city and what people have to endure on an almost daily basis," he said.

Nesbeth scored a number one last year with Boardhouse on the Trumpet rhythm. He is managed by Kemar McGregor, chief executive officer of No Doubt Records. Nesbeth's promotional team including Bull, Captain Meredy, and Garry, were also present during the shoot.

Mavado's crew member arrested

A MEMBER of Mavado's almost 30-strong entourage who travelled with the popular dancehall artiste to Saturday's Digicel Jamaica Derby at Caymanas Park is now behind bars after assaulting a policeman in the racetrack's official car park.

Fans were ecstatic throughout the artiste's performance, some lighting newspapers in the stand on a day of record turnout at the racetrack in Portmore, St Catherine.

However, it was while Mavado and his entourage were leaving the track that things got really heated.

Reports are that a member of the group assaulted Caymanas Track Limited's (CTL) security oss, Jason McKay, who is also a district constable attached to the St Catherine South Police Division.

The man was wrestled to the ground by McKay and other police on hand, who dragged him off, kicking and screaming, to a waiting police vehicle from where he was taken into custody and charged with assault.

Curious onlookers
However, it was not an easy task as it took almost 30 minutes for the police on hand to ward off the determined entourage as several members of Mavado's crew attempted to obstruct McKay and other security personnel from making the arrest.

The five-man team eventually warded off their attackers, who were intent on freeing the man in police custody.

The crowd was eventually dispersed without any injury to what had become hundreds of curious onlookers.

McKay, when contacted, confirmed he had come under attack while trying to assist in the arrest of a member of Mavado's party and said was obstructed by several members of the entourage while attempting to take the suspect into custody.

However, he refused to say whether the artiste was directly involved in the altercation.

"The case is before the court and I don't want to comment but we were obstructed and we are able to identify two of the persons, who attempted to take the prisoner from us," he said.

Barbee not pregnant, listed as 'stable' by doctors

One876Entertainment.com has learned that Barbee is listed in stable condition at an undisclosed hospital in New York, after surviving a car accident in which a Mercedes Benz CLK was totalled. Barbee and a white female friend had been heading to the Jamrock Reggae Fest at Hammerstein Ballroom for her performance alongside the Beenie Man when the car she was travelling got out of control on the slippery roads of the southbound lanes of the Taconi Parkway and crashed into an SUV.

Contrary to reports on another website, Barbee was knocked unconscious when her head hit the windshield and did not cry 'my baby...my baby', as eyewitness reports claimed. She was knocked unconscious immediately.

"I just spoke to her five minutes ago, she was knocked out immediately because her head hit the windshield and she woke almost two hours later in the hospital. She called her mother immediately when she regained consciousness. She is not in critical condition, but is being kept in the hospital for observation, all she has is a bump on her head, but the doctors may perform a CAT scan to find if there is any internal bleeding. Her friend, who was driving at the time, is OK, too," Barbee's publicist and friend Ray Alexander told One876Entertainment.com.

Barbee has repeatedly denied speculative media reports that she is pregnant. She is known for the combination hit singles, Give It Up with Beenie Man, and Missing You with Junior Kelly. At the time that this report is being filed, Beenie Man is still unaware that Barbee has been hospitalized.

This has been another accurate report brought to you by A.K.A, we don't play, smoke all night, write all day.

Milk speaks out about her video

YardFlex caught up with Milk (Amelia 'Milk' Sewell) yesterday morning as she explains her feelings about the video that has been in circulation. I am sure some, if not everyone has heard or seen the video of Milk and her boyfriend Dj Liquid. Milk has stated that she is deeply hurt by the fact that people are so evil. Milk explains that she and Dj Liquid have been together for six years and the video only got out because he lost his phone.

"I just want it all to stop because of my son; I don't want this to affect him as he is currently in high school. Some people are saying why I didn't think of him before? Well I wasn't thinking of him before because I didn't expect the video to go public. Yes it was wrong to videotape myself but nothing is wrong with what I was doing. It's not like I was having sex with another woman or anything like that. The public needs to stop acting as if it's taboo". These are the words of Milk herself.

BEST FATHER’S DAY SONGS OUT THERE
As Father’s Day approaches, we here at one876 have been seeking to find the best Father’s Day songs. Right now, mi hear a couple of songs about parents that I have to big up. First one up is Ras Oneilly’s Only Jah Jah Know, a gem of a song that speaks to the emotional torment of the abandoned child. G Maffiah’s Gone on the Kingston 6 Rekords label, is a powerful song on a hauntingly beautiful riddim and Jubilant has one called Mr. Worthless on the Natural Breeze riddim put out on producer Prekeh’s Open Ear music label. Carlene says Marc Johnson was robbed, murdered

Police are theorizing that the motive for the murder of publicist Marc Johnson on Sunday morning was robbery. However, it was not immediately clear if the publicist knew his attackers as the investigations are ongoing.

Johnson was a well-known figure in local entertainment circles because of his offbeat sense of humour, witty ripostes and sunny, engaging personality. Marc, his friends say, had the singular ability to light up a room with his bombastic presence.

He has worked with leading entertainment figures such as former dancehall queen Carlene Smith, the British Link Up crew, Stone Love Movements, Shocking Vibes Productions, and most recently, as a publicist for deejay Michelle ‘D'Angel’ Downer.

Former dancehall queen Carlene Smith has known for Marc for 23 years, ever since she was 14 years old.

“Marc was a memorable person, you could never forget him. He was going to come and tease you, trouble you, tell you some ridiculous thing. He had the presence of a star, when he walked into a room he made his presence felt,” she said.

Marc’s zany quirks included a habit of getting up in the middle of a conversation and just ‘dancing ballet’.

“I told him to make his mom sign him up earlier in the next life. He was always trying to do that,” she joked.

“He had a passion for life and living and he was so much a part of my life," she said, her voice breaking a little. "He would call me at any time in the early morning. He is really a part of my world, I know a lot of people, and not many people are a part of my world but Marc was my closest, dearest friend.”

She was quick to dismiss rumours that Marc had died in a sexually compromising position at the hands of a gay lover. She said he was beaten, robbed and finally strangled with an electrical cord. The incident happened at about 10:00 on Sunday morning. A caretaker found his body later that afternoon.

“I haven’t slept since yesterday, I will miss him...there were times when I didn’t see him for two weeks, then I would see him 24-7, but those days will never come again, but I have many cherished memories,” Carlene said.

Two years ago Marc Johnson survived an attack where he was stabbed 14 times and his throat slashed by unknown attackers.
